STEPS Laboratory Engineer

The Petroleum Institute, Abu Dhabi, U.A.E.: STEPS Laboratory Engineer – Arts and Sciences Program. The Arts and Sciences Program of the Petroleum Institute has an opening for a Lab Engineer in the STEPS Department. The successful candidate will primarily assist with the teaching of STEPS graphics communications laboratory and supervise the operation of STEPS workshops. The successful candidate will be expected to:

• Assist in the instruction of students in engineering graphics communication using CAD software.
• Supervise the operation of the STEPS workshops and ensure adherence to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) procedures and policies.
• Prepare budget and maintain inventories for equipment, tools and supplies for the STEPS workshops.
• Supervise workshop attendants. This typically includes training, work allocation and problem resolution.

• Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications/other required skills:
• Candidates with a M.Sc. Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or any related engineering field from a top university will be considered, but outstanding, experienced candidates with a B.Sc. Degree will be considered.
• Demonstrated ability to provide instruction in the use of CAD drafting software, hand tools, power tools and construction techniques.
• Ability to supervise and train lab technicians or other staff, including the organization, prioritization and scheduling of their work.
• A minimum of three years experience working in an educational environment in a technical capacity.
• Knowledge of HSE policies and procedures in an educational laboratory situation.

• Excellent written and oral skills in English and the ability to work effectively with faculty and students and must have excellent computer skills.

Salary/Benefits: The total compensation package includes a tax-free 12-month base salary, and a benefit allowance that covers relocation, housing, initial furnishings, utilities; transportation (automobile purchase loan), health insurance, end-of-service benefit and annual leave travel.
